Who are Blowfuse and how did it all started?
-“Blowfuse are Oscar -singer and guitar player-, Ricard -drummer-, Henry -bass player- and Sergi -guitar player-.
Oscar met Sergi when we came to his class as the new guy. The same day they started talking about music and decided to form a band, with hardly any musical training. The rest is just history!
Friendship, sharing a common dream and fulfilling it has led us to play on stage for more than 15 years together. Henry got in less than two years ago, after Victor’s recent departure, who had played bass since the beginning. He never missed a Blowfuse show in Barcelona, so over time we became friends and we asked him to come tour with us. After Vic’s departure, we decided to have him join the band, since we are friends and he knows the songs better than anyone (even better than us haha)”
You guys changed the name to Blowfuse, before recording “Into the Spiral”, why did you make that decision?
-“It’s funny cause we all thought about it individually and when we were just about to record our first album “Into the Spiral”, someone brought it up and everyone else confessed having thought about it. In short, we wanted to get the band to the next level, so we started with the name, as sort of a rebranding.”
What are your main musical influences?
-“Our influences have changed over the years. Our main influence has always been punk rock, but over time we were influenced by all the new bands that we have discovered.
Some of the bands that have influenced us the most are The Offspring, AFI, RKL, King’s X, Living Colour, Fishbone, Pennywise, Oasis, Turnstile, Pearl Jam, Suicidal Tendencies, Jellyfish, 311…
Currently we don’t care about the label with which we define our music, we want to play the music that we feel like, regardless of the genre.”
Best gig so far? Why was it so special?
-“Hard to decide! Probably the best show to me was the last concert of our Japanese tour in 2018, in Tokyo. It was mind-blowing to go to the other side of the world and see so many people singing our songs and going crazy!”
You have toured and played with bands such as Nofx, Bad Religion, Suicidal Tendencies, Millencolin, Good Riddance, Sick Of It All just to name a few, who else do you dream to play with?
-“Mmm… I’ll go as they come: we would love to tour with Billy Talent, huge fans and I think like us, they have not pigeonholed themselves into a defined style and created their own thing.
Touring with Green Day, Sum 41, Blink 182 or The Offspring would be a unique experience, not only because of their popularity but also because of what they mean to us but for being the bands that helped us get an instrument and start a band. Also Lagwagon and Pennywise would be sick too.
However, a band that has a very special place in our hearts is Turnstile. Touring with a band so unique and hardworking would be a true gift!”
“Daily Ritual” and the Ritual tour had a great impact on your career, how was it dealing with all of that?
-“With Daily Ritual we basically gave the 110%. We decided we were going to write the best songs we could, tour as much as we possible, make the best music videos and be active in social media. So as a result we played at bigger festivals, the band became professional, quality of shows and tours improved, we even shared stage with our favorite bands… However, I gotta say it was tough to keep our heads up on the road for so long.
Another big milestone with the record was signing with HFMN Crew as record label, management company and booking agency in Spain, which helped a lot during the process.
I don’t really like to think about what could have happened if Covid didn’t arrive a year after Daily Ritual… Who knows. What’s for sure is that it wouldn’t have taken us 5 years to release another album (coming out on 1st of March 2024) hahaha.
Here we go again!”
How was it to deal with Victor departure?
-“Victor’s departure was very sad to be honest, since he was a very important part of the band, a friend, a brother and original member of the band. We shared more than 15 years of career and experiences. We all miss him and his good vibes! We all knew deep down that Víctor wasn’t having as much fun as we did so when he decided to take a different path we supported his decision. We had the chance to farewell in great style touring with NOFX. It was very beautiful. Vic is and always be a Blowfuse member.”
How was the Lisbon show at Tokyo? What did mean to you guys the receptivity of the portuguese fans?
-“It had been a while since we played in Portugal, and we loved seeing that so many fans and friends showed up! There were good vibes and it always feels good to see people going off when the show starts. We can’t wait to return, and it won’t be long before we do, stay tuned”
