Carlos: So, I’m here on behalf of Cultura em Peso to talk with Yorck, the current guitar player for Sodom. Sodom is a renowned band worldwide, performing extensively over the years.
Q: After many years on the road, what do you do to find inspiration to make new music?
A: Well, I find inspiration from other metal music. I like to listen to a lot of contemporary bands. The riffs often just come out of my head, and I also draw a lot of inspiration from fantasy and science fiction. For example, I might read a comic book, and then a riff pops into my head that fits a scene.
Q: Looking back on your career, is there anything you would have wanted to do differently during your years playing with Sodom?
A: I don’t have any regrets. I would do it the same way all over again, so it’s fine as it is. I’m not involved in any label policies or anything like that, which makes my job simple—I just come and play the music, and that works for me.
Q: What do you like to listen to when you’re on the road? Do you prefer older or newer stuff?
A: Sometimes I check out the best death metal records from the ’90s, as featured in some German magazines. Other times, I focus on black metal from Norway or drumming-heavy bands. I’m a collector too, so I buy music for my collection, but I don’t always have time to listen to everything. I try to catch up while I’m on the road.
Q: And to finish the interview, can you leave a message for your fans around the world?
A: Stay true, stay hard, bang your heads to the stage, and don’t let metal die.
