Cultura em Peso esteve na conferência de imprensa do Suicidal Angels, organizada pela Nuclear Blast.
Nós participamos da conferência de imprensa com Nick Melissourgos, o vocalista e guitarrista da banda grega de Trash Metal Suicidal Angels. A conferência de imprensa foi principalmente sobre o processo criativo de seu lançamento mais recente. “Profane Prayer” foi lançado em 01.03.2024 pela Nuclear Blast Records e é até agora o maior sucesso na carreira da banda e pode ser chamado de um dos destaques do Thrash Metal do ano.
No processo criativo, Nick destacou que eles começam com a música primeiro e depois adicionam as letras. Portanto, eles trazem ideias, escolhem as mais interessantes e as desenvolvem. Então, eles as juntam como peças de um quebra-cabeça. Eles se inspiram em bandas clássicas de Thrash Metal (por exemplo, Kreator, Destruction), mas tentam filtrar a música através de sua própria perspectiva e criar sua própria identidade musical sem esconder suas influências. Ele disse que estão sempre buscando o melhor resultado sonoro, sem soar estereotipado.
Ele também falou sobre experimentos no Thrash Metal, que é um equilíbrio entre a quantidade certa de frescor e novas influências e ainda permanecer fiel às suas raízes.
Liricamente, ele foi influenciado por livros filosóficos de Nietzsche e Freud, nos quais se envolveu nos últimos anos. Os autores inspiraram sua perspectiva sobre o mundo. Além da inspiração nos livros, ele também se inspira em encontros com pessoas, bem como em suas próprias experiências ou nas experiências de outras pessoas.
Em sua opinião, música e letras sempre têm que andar juntas porque “imagine Raining Blood do Slayer com letras sobre porcos cor-de-rosa“. Assim, as letras só funcionam com a música certa e vice-versa.
Ele foi perguntado sobre a comparação entre os novos lançamentos e os antigos e o que mudou e o que permaneceu o mesmo em sua opinião. Ele disse que a dedicação e a paixão permaneceram as mesmas e sobre as coisas que mudaram, ele nos disse que cada álbum representa uma era e a condição atual da banda.
Há um fato interessante sobre as letras da música “When the Lions die” no novo álbum. Nas letras, ele fala sobre “Sirenes“, que são criaturas antigas gregas que são seres humanos com vozes sedutoras, que atraem tripulações de navios e as fazem se despedaçar e morrer em penhascos na costa. Durante o processo de escrita da música, Nick pensou nas “Sereias” como um símbolo para os demônios em nossas cabeças aos quais damos muita atenção e também dançamos com eles de forma metafórica.
Quando perguntado sobre o relacionamento e camaradagem entre as bandas gregas (por exemplo, Rotting Christ, Septicflesh), ele disse que está feliz que realmente boas peças de música possam ser encontradas na Grécia. Ele também aprendeu com as bandas a forma como trabalham e elas mostraram a ele que o trabalho árduo resulta em sucesso.
Eles realmente gostariam de fazer uma turnê na América do Sul com o novo álbum e estão tentando tornar isso realidade em breve. Talvez eles sejam vistos em alguns dos maiores festivais da América do Sul também.

Cultura em Peso was at the Sucidal Angels press conference, organized by Nuclear Blast.
We joined the press conference with Nick Melissourgos, the singer and guitar player of Greek Trash-Metal Band Suicidal Angels. The press conference was mostly about the creative process of their latest release. “Profane Prayer” was released on 01.03.2024 via Nuclear Blast Records and is so far the biggest success in the band’s career and can be called one of the Thrash Metal Highlights of the year.
In the creative process, Nick pointed out that they start with the music first and then add the lyrics. Therefore they are bringing in ideas, picking out the most interesting ones and bringing them further. Then they are puzzling them together. They take classic Thrash Metal Band (e.g. Kreator, Destruction) as a musical influence but try to filter the music through their perspective and create their own musical identity but without hiding their influences. He said that they are always searching for the best sound result, without sounding stereotypic.
He also talked about experiments in Thrash Metal, that it’s a balancing act between the right amount of freshness and new influences and still staying true to their roots.
Lyrically he was influenced by philosophic books of Nietzsche and Freud which he got into in the last years. The authors inspired his perspective about the world. Besides the inspiration from books he also gets inspiration from encounters with people. As well as his own experiences or the experiences of other people.
In his opinion music and lyrics always have to go together because “imagine Raining Blood by Slayer with the lyrics about pink pigs”. So lyrics only work with the right music and vice versa.
He was asked to compare the new with the older releases and what changed and what stayed the same in his opinion. He said that the dedication and passion stayed the same and about the things that changed he told us that every album represents an era and the actual condition of the band.
There is an interesting fact about the lyrics of the song “When the Lions die” on the new record. In the lyrics he speaks about “Sirenes” which are ancient greek creatures which are humanlike beings with alluring voices, who attract ship crew and let them shatter and die on cliffs on shores. During the writing process of the Song Nick thought about the “Sirens” as a Symbol for the demons in our heads which we give too much attention to and also dance with them in a metaphoric way.
When he got asked about the relationship and camaraderie between greek bands (e.g. Rotting Christ, Septicflesh) he said that he is glad that really nice pieces of music can be found in Greece. He also learned from the bands the way they work and they showed him that hard work turns out in success.
They really would like to Tour in South America with the new record and try to make it happen soon. Maybe they will be seen at some of the bigger Festivals in South America as well.
