Acid King será uma das atrações principais do DesertFest Berlin 2024, tocando na sexta-feira, 24 de maio.
O trio de doom-stoner foi originalmente formado em 1993 em San Francisco pela vocalista Lori S., pelo baterista Joey Osbourne e pelo baixista Peter Lucas. Outros baixistas e bateristas contribuíram para o legado do Acid King ao longo dos anos, sendo Lori S. a única membro original até hoje. A formação atual conta com Bryce Shelton no baixo e Jason Willer na bateria. Durante sua carreira, a banda lançou cinco álbuns de estúdio completos e dois EPs.
Lori S. pegou emprestado o nome Acid King do livro “Say You Love Satan”, que conta a história do assassino adolescente Ricky Kasso.
O som do Acid King é imediatamente reconhecível: metal stoner descontraído com um toque de rock clássico. Os riffs densos de Lori mergulhados em distorção, seus vocais hipnotizantes rugindo sobre linhas de baixo groovy e tambores pulsantes constroem dimensões tão densas que poderiam ser cortadas com uma faca. Embora nunca tenham atingido o “mainstream” do stoner, o Acid King é definitivamente uma banda bem estabelecida na cena do stoner-doom desde seus primeiros lançamentos, tendo dividido o palco com bandas como Sleep, Down, Blue Öyster Cult, Red Fang ou YOB.
Após uma longa pausa que durou até o ano passado, Lori S. e companhia embarcarão em uma turnê européia que não só trará os californianos para Berlim, mas também para o Desertfest London e o Desertfest Oslo. Outros shows pela Europa já foram confirmados.
Beyond Vision, seu último lançamento em quase uma década, recebeu aclamação generalizada pela crítica. O álbum, produzido por Billy Anderson, leva a banda um passo adiante em sua evolução sonora. Seu som monolítico permanece intacto, mas as guitarras incendiárias estão envoltas em tons psicodélicos que o levarão a uma viagem para onde você quiser. Uma das bandas a não serem perdidas nesta edição do Desertfest Berlin.

Acid King will be one of the headliners for DesertFest Berlin 2024, playing on Friday 24th May.
The doom-stoner trio was originally formed in 1993 in San Francisco by frontwoman Lori S., drummer Joey Osbourne and bassist Peter Lucas. Other bass players and drummers have contributed to Acid King’s legacy along the years, being Lori S. the only original member to date. Current lineup has Bryce Shelton on the four strings and Jason Willer on drums. During their career, the band has released five full-length studio albums and two EPs.
Lori S. borrowed the name Acid King from the book “Say You Love Satan”, which tells the story of teenage murderer Ricky Kasso.
Acid King’s sound is immediately recognisable: laidback stoner metal with a twist of classic rock. Lori’s dense riffs soaked in distortion, her mesmerizing vocals roaring over groovy basslines and pulsing drums build dimensions so dense they could be cut with a knife. Though they never hit the “stoner mainstream”, Acid King is definitely a well-established band in the stoner-doom scene since their first releases, having shared stage with bands such as Sleep, Down, Blue Öyster Cult, Red Fang or YOB.
After a long hiatus that lasted until last year, Lori S. and company will embark on a European tour that will not only bring the Californians to Berlin, but also to Desertfest London and Desertfest Oslo. Other shows around Europe have already being confirmed.
Beyond Vision, their last release in almost a decade, has received widespread acclaim by critics. The album, produced by Billy Anderson, takes the band a step further in their sonic evolution. Their monolithic sound remains intact, but the blistering guitars are wrapped in psychedelic overtones that will take you on a trip wherever you want to. One of the bands not to be missed in this edition of Desertfest Berlin.
