A banda Earthless foi formada em 2001 em San Diego, Califórnia, e sua formação não mudou desde então. O trio composto pelo guitarrista Isaiah Mitchell, o baixista Mike Eginto e o baterista Mario Rubalcaba subirá ao palco do Desertfest no 25º aniversário de sua carreira, no primeiro dia do festival (14 de maio). Uma mistura de krautrock alemão, jazz, rock clássico (Blue Cheer, Black Sabbath, Cream) e psicodelia, e especialmente bandas da cena psicodélica japonesa, como Flower Travellin Band, High Rise e Blues Creation, foram citadas pela banda como grandes influências em seu som. O nome da banda foi sugerido por Eginton, inspirado em uma música da banda Druids of Stonhenge, dos anos 60.
Sendo principalmente uma banda instrumental, eles costumam escolher tocar em uma tonalidade ou modo específico e mantêm-no independentemente de como o solo de guitarra possa se desenvolver. Seu processo criativo é relativamente pessoal. Seu último álbum, Night Parade of One Hundred Demons, foi lançado em 2022 e consiste em duas faixas: a faixa-título de 41 minutos e a faixa “Death To The Red Sun” de 20 minutos. Eles exploram atmosferas mais sombrias inspiradas no folclore japonês, especificamente um desfile de demônios e fantasmas que aterrorizava os habitantes de vilarejos adormecidos uma vez por ano.

The band Earthless was formed in 2001 in San Diego, California, and its lineup has remained unchanged since then. The trio, consisting of guitarist Isaiah Mitchell, bassist Mike Eginto, and drummer Mario Rubalcaba, will take the stage at Desertfest on the 25th anniversary of their career, on the first day of the festival (May 14). An exceptional opportunity to enjoy the band live.
A mix of German krautrock, jazz, classic rock (Blue Cheer, Black Sabbath, Cream), and psychedelia, and especially bands from the Japanese psychedelic scene such as Flower Travellin Band, High Rise, and Blues Creation, have been cited by the band as major influences on their sound. The band’s name was suggested by Eginton, inspired by a song by the 1960s band Druids of Stonhenge.
Being primarily an instrumental band, they often choose to play in a specific key or mode and stick with it regardless of how the guitar solo may develop. Their creative process is relatively personal. They compose songs, but often improvise repeatedly during live shows, and this causes some of the improvisations to become permanent parts of the tracks. Both their albums and their shows are extremely fluid, explosive at times, taking the listener on a rich sonic journey through spacey landscapes and blues-influenced melodies.
Earthless’ debut album, Sonic Prayer, was released in 2005 and praised by both fans and critics, earning the band the Best Hard Rock Album award at the San Diego Music Awards in 2007.
After the release of their second album, Rhythms from a Cosmic Sky, in 2008, the band played at Roadburn that same year, which resulted in an improvised live album, as the band did not know they were being recorded during their performance.
Between 2009 and 2011, the band toured extensively throughout the Northern Hemisphere with bands such as Witch, Russian Circles, and Baroness. After that, they focused on other projects and the band unwittingly entered a period of inactivity.
In 2012, after a brief hiatus, the band released three more albums and toured extensively worldwide, including Oceania and Asia.
Their latest album, Night Parade of One Hundred Demons, was released in 2022 and consists of two tracks: the 41-minute title track and the 20-minute track “Death To The Red Sun.” They explore darker atmospheres inspired by Japanese folklore, specifically a parade of demons and ghosts that terrorized the inhabitants of sleeping villages once a year.
