Interview by: Rui Moreira (aliveandclickin)
Kill The President are playing next friday @ Tokyo-Lisboa and we talked about their career, live shows and tours and their last album “Aftermath”.
– Who are Kill the President and how did it all started?
“We’re actually a bunch of friends and true souls who get together to make the music we love and spread our message across. The band started back in 2011, currently the only former member is David (drums). Like I said a bunch of mates got together to learn how to play those rageous tunes and here we are, with the best lineup so far and in the best shape ever.”
– How did the idea for the name came out?
“Reckon that the original idea was to make some reference towards The Offspring (we were young and stupid), although eventually it started to get a real meaning for us and for the music we write. The name is an ode to the rebellion against any authority, the concept President could apply to interpretations related to bigotry and authoritarianism.”
– What are your main musical influences?
“We have been grown in punk rock, hardcore , metal , hiphop since our early days. Reckon that we have been able to reach our own style, but definitely influenced by bands such as Strike Anywhere, Good Riddance, Comeback Kid, Rise Against, RKL, Propagandhi and many many more.”
– Best gig so far? Why was it so special?
“Cannot remember very well haha, but yeah during our career we’ve had many special gigs, to say some big festivals and shows which marked ourselves resulting what we are at the moment. To mention some from our new lineup, would say that some months ago we played at a Surf Bar and was mental!”
– You played important festivals such as Groezrock, Brakrock and PunkRock Holyday just to name a few, which one is still missing?
“Yes, good times in all of those, and luckily this year we’re coming back to Manchester Punk Festival and Punk Rock Holiday for the second time at both. There´s many cool spots to play at, many festivals and many beers to discover. Maybe would like to take part in SBAM, Tell Bells, something cool in Portugal! , and maybe overseas. We’re all ears.”
– How is “Aftermath” being accepted by your fans?
“Well one year so far since it was released, and we’re quite proud of it. We’ve been playing it this year a lot in Spain and touring Europe as well. Now we’re very excited to play “Aftermath” in Portugal very soon! In the meantime, we’re composing new bangers, but yeah.. quite happy with this year and with “Aftermath”. Let’s see the next chapter!”
– Expectations for the Tokyo show in Lisbon?
“A lot of Superbock, a real hardcore night with a sweaty crowd enjoying like hell.
Looking forward to Cold Sweat! Thanks for having us! Obrigado!”
