Após o fim do Kyuss em 1995, John García uniu forças com o produtor Dandy Brown e outros músicos para dar vida ao Hermano, uma das bandas mais icónicas da cena stoner rock. Depois de um longo hiato entre 2007 e 2024, o grupo regressa em grande, liderando o alinhamento do primeiro dia do Desertfest Berlin, como parte da sua European Tour 2026.
O Hermano foi fundado em 1998 pelo produtor, baixista e pioneiro da cena desert rock Dandy Brown (Orquesta del Desierto), juntamente com John García (Kyuss, Slo-Burn, Unida) nos vocais, Steve Earle (Afghan Whigs) na bateria e Mike Callahan (Earshot) na guitarra. Após um período de troca de ideias e composições, entraram em estúdio em 1999 para gravar o álbum de estreia Only a Suggestion, que acabou por ser lançado apenas em 2002 devido a restrições legais.
O disco seguinte, Dare I Say, saiu em 2005, seguido por Into the Exam Room no final de 2007. Após este terceiro trabalho, a banda entrou em hiato até 2024, ano em que lançou o seu regresso discográfico com When the Moon Was High.
Ao longo da sua trajetória, o Hermano sempre manteve uma postura autêntica, gravando discos e fazendo digressões apenas quando sentia vontade — nunca por obrigações contratuais. Essa atitude direta, aliada à amizade, paixão e amor pela música, reflete-se em toda a sua obra e consolida a banda como uma das maiores da história do stoner rock. After Kyuss dissolved in 1995, John García joined efforts with producer Dandy Brown and other musicians to give birth to Hermano, one of the most iconic bands of the stoner rock scene. After a long hiatus (2007-2024), the band is heading the line up on the first day of Desertfest Berlin, as part of their European Tour 2026.
Hermano was founded by producer, bassist and pioneer of the desert rock scene Dandy Brown (Orquesta del Desierto) in 1998 together with John García (Kyuss, Slo-Burn, Unida) on vocals, Steve Earle (Afghan Whigs) on drums and Mike Callahan (Earshot) on guitar. They spent some time exchanging ideas and sharing music before entering the studio in 1999 to record Hermano’s debut album Only a Suggestion, which unfortunately could not see the light until 2002 due to legal restrictions.
Their next release would be Dare I say in 2005, followed by Into the Exam Room in late 2007. After their third record, the band went on hiatus til 2024, when they released their most recent work When the Moon was High.
The band has always remained authentic by recording albums and touring when they wanted to, and not due to contractual obligations, keeping their sound pure and genuine. Their down-to-earth attitude together with their friendship, passion and love for music permeates all their works, positioning Hermano as one of the greatest bands in the history of stoner rock. John García’s unparalleled vocals combined with the powerhouse of his talented bandmates make a combination which has delivered (and still does) both formidable live shows and solid albums througout the band’s career.
Hermano will definitely be one of the main bands of this edition of Desertfest Berlin after their last festival performance in Hellfest 2016.
