Blackwater Holylight foi formada em Portland, Oregon. A banda lançou um total de cinco álbuns (veja a discografia abaixo) e a formação atual é composta por Sunny Faris na guitarra, baixo e vocais, Kikayla Mayhew no baixo e na guitarra, Elieses Dorsay na bateria e Sarah McKenna nos sintetizadores.
Originalmente um trio, o grupo de amigos, que já atuava na cena underground de sua cidade, deu início a este novo projeto em 2016. Combinando shoegaze, doom, heavy psych e stoner, a banda rapidamente ganhou reconhecimento entre o público local após seus primeiros shows. Eles lançaram seu primeiro álbum homônimo em 2018.
Algumas das bandas que influenciaram o BWHL são Black Sabbath, My Bloody Valentine e CHCR. Seu som é muito fluido e varia do pop ao grunge e ao black metal, demonstrando a variedade de gêneros musicais que influenciaram os diferentes membros da banda.
Em busca de nova inspiração, a banda deixou sua cidade natal, Portland, e se mudou para Los Angeles em 2025. Os desafios de um novo começo longe de casa serviram de base para seu álbum mais recente, Not Here Not Gone, lançado em janeiro de 2026. Após anos de trabalho árduo, evolução e algumas mudanças na formação, a banda, agora como um quarteto, lançou um álbum magnífico que combina pesadidão e melancolia da maneira mais perfeita.
Riffs poderosos e pesados, apoiados por linhas de baixo groovy e uma bateria versátil e precisa, fundem-se em um belo contraste com os vocais sedutores, semelhantes aos de uma sereia, e o trabalho de sintetizador misterioso, criando um estilo muito distinto.
A turnê europeia deles terá início no lendário Roadburn Festival, em Tilburg, em abril, e levará a banda a todas as edições europeias do Desertfest, entre outros festivais e cidades pelo velho continente.

Blackwater Holylight on Desertfest Berlin 2026, 14th May
Blackwater Holylight formed in Portland, Oregon. They have released a total of five albums (see discography below) and the current line up consists of Sunny Faris on guitar, bass and vocals, Kikayla Mayhew on bass and guitar, Elieses Dorsay on drums and Sarah McKenna on synths.
Originally as a trio, the group of friends, who were already active in the underground scene of their city, started this new project in 2016. Combining shoegaze, doom, heavy psych and stoner, the band quickly gained recognition among the locals after their first gigs. They released their first homonimous album in 2018.
Some of the bands which have influenced BWHL are Black Sabbath, My Bloody Valentine and CHCR. Their sound is very fluid and ranges from pop to grunge to black metal, displaying the variety of music genres which have influenced the different band members.
Looking for new inspiration, the band left their natal Portland and moved to Los Angeles in 2025. The challenges of a new start far away from home were the base for their most recent album, Not Here Not Gone, released in January 2026. After years of hard work, evolution and some changes in their line up, the band, now as a quartet, has released a magnificient record which combines heaviness and melancholia in the most perfect way.
Powerful, heavy riffs supported by groovy basslines and versatile and precise drumming blend into a beautiful contrast with the alluring, mermaid-like vocals and eerie synth work, creating a very distinctive style.
Their European Tour will take off on the legendary Roadburn Festival in Tilburg in April and will bring the band to all the European Desertfest editions among other festivals and cities through the old continent.
